GENERAL INFORMATION
The Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) is seeking Retirement Counselor 1’s. These positions are full-time, either permanent position or limited duration. These positions are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)/Oregon Public Employees Union (OPEU).
This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified people, which may be used to fill both permanent and limited duration vacancies as they occur in various sections of the Agency.
If selected for the position, you must provide documentation of your eligibility to work in the United States. Applicants will be subject to a Computerized Criminal History for a thorough background investigation. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification. TO QUALIFY
Your PD100 application form and resume (optional) will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section (be specific in describing your experience). To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you have:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience researching or reconciling accounts and explaining rules, programs or procedures; or
One year of calculating payment amounts and explaining rules, programs, or procedures; or
12 quarter (8 semester) college level credit hours in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. To receive credit for required courses, you must submit a photocopy of transcripts.

PURPOSE
Serve as primary contact for employers on all queries regarding member and employer research request, correction of data reporting and compliance procedures, legal interpretation and federal tax issues related to qualified plans. Reconciles demographic and financial information related to member and employer accounts. Invoices employers for contributions or refunds overpayments to employers to reconcile records.
MAIN DUTIES
Process audits of employer contribution reporting.
Reconcile individual member accounts.
Reconcile total employer and employee contributions for the year.
Ensure that member contributions are correctly reported for federal income tax requirements.
Serve as contact for PERS employer members and counsel on a wide variety of PERS topics.
Provide information on PERS programs to employee groups as required or assigned via telephone contact or written correspondence.
Invoice employers for contribution and/or service time due to members.
Calculate amounts due on behalf of member. Generate invoice.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical smoke-free office setting. Occasionally necessary to deal with irate members or employers on the phone and in person Work subject to interruptions. Requires ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Requires ability to communicate in a variety of different media (public speaking, in meetings, on phone, email, and letters).
