Benoni Whitten Biography

 



        Benoni Whitten was admitted as an attorney at law by the Supreme Court of Oregon, on September 6, 1866. At that time he was a resident of Grant County, Ore.

        He was appointed by Governor George L. Woods, to fill a vacancy on the circuit bench in the fifth judicial district, in May 1870. He succeeded Judge Joseph G. Wilson, who resigned and accepted the republican nomination of Congress but was defeated in the election. Judge Whitten served from June to September 1870, when he was succeeded by Judge L. L. McArthur, who was elected from this district.

        Judge Whitten never sat upon the Supreme Bench.
