Cottage Grove (61S)
Property acquired in 1963 and '64 with construction of airport in 1964. The runway was widened and lengthened in 1969 and the Village Green donated a taxiway and tiedown area and constructed a road from Bowling Green Road to intersect with Thornton Lane. Later projects constructed tie-down areas in the area to the west near Village Green, paved the taxiway to this area, installed low intensity lighting system, improved drainage, constructed new access to terminal area and enlarged the tie-down areas. Much of the property for the Cottage Grove airport was donated by the Woodard family. Airport has FBO.
Cottage Grove State Airport was constructed in 1965 through a joint venture between the Board of Aeronautics, the FAA, and the local community. The airport is located cast of Interstate 5, approximately one mile northeast of the community of Cottage Grove.
The community of Cottage Grove has recognized the importance of an airport to the economic development of its area. The community's support of the construction of the airport is evidence of its recognition. Several business class aircraft currently operate at the airport. The airport is categorized as a level 3 airport and should continue to be included in the NPIAS.
