Adopted codes and standards
The division works with building officials, technical committees, advisory boards, and the public to adopt, amend, and interpret the Oregon Elevator Specialty Code. This code applies to the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of elevators to be operated in this state.
2024 Oregon Elevator Specialty Code
The new code is comprised of the following:
- 2019 ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators
- 2020 ASME A17.2 Guide for Inspection of Elevators, Escalators and Moving Walks
- 2020 ASME A17.3 Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators**
- 2022 ASME A17.6 Elevator Suspension, Compensation, and Governor Systems
- 2007 ASME A17.7 Performance Based Code
- 2020 ASME A18.1 Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts
- 2015 ASME A90.1 Belt Manlifts
Effective: Jan. 1, 2024
**The 2020 ASME A17.3 has a six-month phase-in period beginning Jan. 1, 2024 and ending July 1, 2024. During the phase-in period, use of the 2002 edition or the 2020 edition of ASME A17.3 is permitted.
