Job Description
There is currently one short-duration trainee program in the forestry field. Forest workers plant seedling trees to reforest timberlands. They may do some tree thinning and ecosystem management tasks.
Working Conditions
Forest workers perform their jobs outdoors in mountainous terrain and under arduous conditions.
Wages
Beginning trainees start at 65 percent of the journey-level wage. Upon completion of the required class work and on-the-job training hours, wages are increased periodically until the journey-level wage has been achieved.
Length of Apprenticeship
This trainee program lasts about one and one-half years with a total of 1,950 on-the-job training hours and 60 hours per year of related classroom training. Advancement opportunities occur in four steps upon the successful completion of required classroom and on-the-job training hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Apprenticeship applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
