These hours must conform to Board rules regarding what topics, providers, and types of activities are pre-approved or require special approval. It is up to the licensee to make sure that the hours you report meet Board criteria, and that you keep documentation of your participation for four years available for audit.
If you need to check whether a program you attended received special approval, you can click on the Professional Development tab on our homepage, and scroll down to the Special Approval heading. You can then click on links to programs in 2012 and 2013 that have been specially approved. If an activity you completed requires special approval, you can request such approval through the form at the bottom of that page. These activities should generally be approved in advance; if it is more than 30 days after the program has been completed, you will need to pay a late fee to request special approval.
*CAUTION: If you were initially after 2009, and you did NOT report the full amount of necessary PD on your original application, you checked a box that said you would complete 10 hours in your first 12 months of licensure (SLPs/Auds), or 5 hours in the first 12 months of licensure (SLPAs). You will be contacted by the Board office for documentation of these hours at the end of your first 12 months of licensure. This requirement is still in effect, regardless of the number of hours required for renewal as outlined on the above table.
*If you need to check when your license was first issued, you can click the Licensee Directory tab on our homepage, and search on your name.
