Professional Development Activities
Required Professional Development Hours for Next Renewal Period
Professional development hours must conform to Board rules regarding what topics, providers, and types of activities are pre-approved or require special approval.  An activity must meet all three pre-approval criteria (activity, topic, and sponsor) or it must be specially approved. Hours that do not meet these rules will not be counted.

It is up to the licensee to make sure that the hours you report meet Board criteria, and that you keep documentation of your participation for four years available for audit. Please do not submit your professional development records to the Board office unless you are informed on an audit on your license.
If you need to check whether a program you attended received special approval, you can click on the Professional Development tab on our homepage, and scroll down to the Special Approval heading.  You can then click on links to programs in 2016-17 that have been specially approved.  If an activity you completed requires special approval, you can request such approval through the form at the bottom of that page.  These activities should generally be approved in advance; if it is more than 30 days after the program has been completed, you will need to pay a late fee to request special approval.
*If you need to check when your license was first issued, you can click the Licensee Directory tab on our homepage, and search on your name.
New Professional Development rules - Effective May 1st, 2013

The Special Edition of The Voice describes the changes in the PD and other rules effective May 1st.

As you will read, requests for special approval for PD programs that you plan to attend in 2013 may be submitted for review under the rules old until May 1st. After that, the new rules apply. PD already obtained and approved in 2012 & 2013 under the old rules will be honored when you report PD on your renewal application on or before December 31, 2013.
We have also created a Triple Test Guide. Please print this and use it to determine whether PD is accepted, requires special approval, or does not count under the new Triple Test system.   Most of PD activities that licensees currently report will continue to meet the new rules, but please try a few of them out using this Guide, to see how they will be treated after May 1st.
