Environmental Cleanup

This page provides information on enterable fields in the ECSI query form and tips for performing your search. You may find it helpful to print this page and refer to it as you fill out your query request. To return to the query home page or to begin your query, click on the links at the bottom of this page.

Several fields will accept partial entries and return a list of sites where the field begins with the characters you have entered. For example, entering the letters "Mount" in the City field returns a list of all sites in Mount Angel, Mount Hood, Mount Vernon, etc. In cases where the field contains (but may not begin with) the characters you have entered, place a "wild-card" symbol (%) at the beginning of the entry (see Site Name below for an example of how this works).

The fields Site Name, Site Address, and City are case-insensitive. You can enter names in lower case, upper case, or mixed case.

Site ID: This refers to ECSI numbers assigned to specific sites. Use this box if you know the site ID# and need information about this site only.

Site Name: Enter a full or partial site name. For partial names, you may increase your chances for "hits" by placing a wild-card symbol (%) at the beginning of your entry. For example, if you're looking for petroleum bulk plants, you might enter %bulk, or %petroleum. Note that the search engine looks for site aliases, as well as official ECSI site names. This is why a site name search may return one or more sites with names that don't contain the characters you entered - but don't worry - they're the same sites!

Site Address: This field queries all address information for a site. You can enter full or partial addresses, quadrants (directional indicators such as N, S, E, W, NE, SW), street names, and/or types (AVE, ST, BLVD, LN, etc.). All sites with matching text strings in the address field will appear after clicking the "Submit" button. Note that "wild-card" symbols are not needed for this field.

County: Pull-down county list allows you to search for all sites in a given county.

City: Enter a full or partial city name.

Zip Code: Enter a full or partial zip code.

Latitude and Longitude: Use this query if you want all sites within a range of latitudes and longitudes. Enter lat/long data in decimal degrees, rather than in minutes and seconds (e.g., 44.3456 or 122.8). When using this query, be sure to enter a range for both latitude and longitude coordinates.

Township, Range, Section (T/R/S): To use this alternative geographic query, enter at least a township and a range from the pull-down menus. Leave the default item "[Select]" in place or choose "All" if you do not wish to restrict your search by T/R/S combinations. Note that Townships in Oregon extend from 1-9 North and 1-41 South; Ranges extend from 1-16 West and 1-51 East. There are 36 Sections in each T/R combination. Each Section is one square mile (1 mile X 1 mile).

Site Actions or Milestones: Use this pull-down menu to select sites with certain key actions completed in DEQ's Cleanup Program, or that have certain conditions in place, as recorded in ECSI. For example, you can search for all sites with completed human health or ecological risk assessments, or all sites with institutional controls in place.

Contaminant [CAS No.]: Use this pull-down menu to search for specific contaminants and their associated Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) numbers at sites where this data has been entered. Use the default "none" if you do not wish to restrict your search to specific contaminants. This query may generate a list of sites where the requested contaminant was formerly present but has been removed, or may leave out sites where the requested contaminant is present but has not been recorded in ECSI.

Contaminant Alias: This pull-down menu lists alternate names for certain chemicals, and should be used if you cannot find the name of the substance of interest in the "Contaminant [CAS No.]" menu. Use the default "none" if you do not wish to restrict your search to specific contaminants. This query may generate a list of sites where the requested contaminant was formerly present but has been removed, or may leave out sites where the requested contaminant is present but has not been recorded in ECSI.
