Oregon has been selected as the host state for the NAPSA (National Adult Protective Services Association) 25th annual conference this coming October. It is the first time Oregon has hosted this major national conference, which brings together the very best training and knowledge on protecting all vulnerable adults. It is a real honor and recognition for Oregon.
Two wonderful keynoter speakers have agreed to be a part of the event: US Health and Human Services Administrator Kathy Greenlee and Columbia Sportswear Chairman of the Board and Oregon icon Gert Boyle.
Kathy Greenlee serves in the dual role of Administrator of the Administration for Community Living and as Assistant Secretary for Aging. Ms. Greenlee was appointed by President Obama as Assistant Secretary for Aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and confirmed by the Senate in June 2009.
Assistant Secretary Greenlee believes that people with functional support needs should have the opportunity to live independently in a home of their choosing, receiving appropriate services and supports. She is committed to building the capacity of the national aging and disability networks to better serve older persons, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities.
At 90 years old, Gert Boyle still works full-time and has a full calendar as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in addition to an active social life.
In her book "One Tough Mother" Boyle presents an honest, open and often irreverent account of her truly remarkable journey from a childhood in Nazi Germany to fame and fortune in America as one of the first women to run a sportswear company. Her story is one that inspires anyone facing difficult circumstances beyond their control.
Mrs. Boyle will also shed her insight on being a crime victim four years ago, as well as her tips for professionals on interacting with those who have been victimized.
Kerry Tymchuk, who co-authored “One Tough Mother” will present with Ms. Boyle. Kerry is executive director of the Oregon Historical Society and has assisted several national and local personalities in capturing their memoirs.
The NAPSA conference is October 29 and 30 in Portland.
