Beach Monitoring Advisory Committee to convene in Newport
The Beach Monitoring Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Newport at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn, 3019 North Coast Highway.
This is one of five meetings that will be devoted to the development of a public notification plan, including working with communities on a process to inform local citizens and beach visitors and for posting signs.
Wednesday’s meeting will focus on defining the program, the purpose and scope of the advisory group, and how members will organize to meet those goals. The public is invited; public comment will be taken between 3 and 3:30 p.m. only.
Janet Gillaspie of Environmental Strategies, LLC, a professional facilitator, has been contracted to facilitate the meeting. Funding for her services is through the Beach Water Monitoring Program, funded by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
The advisory committee was convened by the Oregon Department of Human Services to gain comment about the public notification plan. The 24-member committee is made up of city, council and state officials, business, environmental and tribal representatives, and others. Anyone with questions about the advisory committee should contact Cindy Gaines at (503) 731-4012.
