DHS schedules budget-review meetings in Eugene, Portland and Bend

Public meetings are scheduled in Eugene, Portland and Bend to share information and hear comment as the Oregon Department of Human Services develops its 2005-07 budget for the two-year period beginning July 1, 2005.

DHS Director Gary Weeks and others will present information about budget trends, major revenue sources and principal expenditure areas.

The two-hour meetings are scheduled:

Eugene: Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the ballroom at the Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette St.

Portland: May 25 at 9 a.m. at the River ballroom of the Marriott hotel (Portland city center), 520 S.W. Broadway

Bend: May 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Bend Community Center, 1036 N.E. Fifth St.

All three sites are accessible to people with disabilities.

DHS, working through its own offices and those of county and nonprofit partners, delivers child protection, self-sufficiency, public health, mental health and addiction, vocational rehabilitation, and Oregon Health Plan services, as well as those for seniors and people with disabilities. Its current two-year budget exceeds $9 billion, of which more than 60 percent is federal.
