Registration deadline extended for Oct. 9 pain-management workshop

The deadline to register for a free Oct. 9 workshop intended to help chronic-pain patients work more effectively with their physicians has been extended until Oct. 6, says Carol Misrack, pain management coordinator in the Oregon Department of Human Services.

Persons wishing to register for the 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. workshop may call Linn-Benton Community College, where the workshop will be held, at (541) 917-4840.

Speakers at the workshop will be State Sen. Joan Dukes of Astoria, who sponsored the state's first pain-management legislation; Pamela Bennett, a registered nurse and senior director for advocacy at Connecticut-based Purdue Pharma; Mary Ann Wallace, M.D., a Corvallis physician specializing in integrative medicine; and Namita Gandhi, a Corvallis clinical exercise physiologist who specializes in the relationship between muscle movement and pain.

"Pain is the No. 1 reason people seek medical services," Misrack says, "and people should know what their doctors need to know to help them."
