Governor appoints chair of Commission on Senior Services

Governor Ted Kulongoski has appointed John C. Helm of Scappoose as Chair of the Governor's Commission on Senior Services.

The Governor's Commission on Senior Services was created by the Oregon Legislature in 1985 to advise the Governor and the Director of Human Services on needs of elderly persons and to recommend actions by the governor, the Department of Human Services, other governmental entities and the private sector, appropriate to meet such needs.

"I am grateful John has agreed to serve as chair," said Governor Kulongoski. "I'm confident of his abilities to help the commission be an influential and effective voice for seniors across Oregon."

Helm, manager of TransWestern Aviation in Scappoose, has many years of experience in the executive and legislative branches of Oregon government, including a particular interest in the issues that affect older adults. Governor Kulongoski first appointed Helm to a three-year term on the commission in October 2004.
