May 18 is deadline to submit 2006-07 AmeriCorps applications
Oregon organizations wishing to engage an AmeriCorps member to do risk prevention and education work starting this fall have until May 18 to submit applications to the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), which administers the federal funds.
Forty-three AmeriCorps members will be available for full-time placement beginning Sept. 11 with health departments, schools, non-profits, shelters, and youth- and family-serving organizations and other host sites, which must provide a $4,500 non-federal cash match.
AmeriCorps members, who are 18 or older, deliver direct services such as promoting positive youth development, supporting victims of domestic violence and abuse and teaching skills such as communication, conflict resolution and healthy decision-making.
To request an application or more information, contact Tina McCollum, DHS program manager for AmeriCorps HOPE, at (503) 945-6906 or email@example.com
AmeriCorps HOPE (for Healthy Options through Prevention and Education) is one of about 15 separate AmeriCorps programs in Oregon, whose members provide services such as education, environment, public safety and urban renewal.
The invitation for applications, approval of applications and any subsequent agreements and awards for placement of AmeriCorps members are contingent upon:
approval of the AmeriCorps HOPE grant application and full funding as requested from the Corporation for National and Community Service;
availability of grant match funds from DHS; and
successful recruitment and placement of an AmeriCorps member by the host site.
