DHS grants Certificate of Need for relocation of Corvallis nursing facility beds

The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) today issued a proposed order to Samaritan Health Services, Inc., granting a certificate of need for the relocation of nursing facility beds.

Samaritan Heart of the Valley, located at 2750 NW Harrison Blvd., proposes relocating 62 nursing facility beds to a new and remodeled facility located at 980 NW Spruce Avenue in Corvallis. Heart of the Valley is currently licensed for 87 nursing facility beds. The remaining 25 beds will be put on inactive status but may be relocated in the future, which would require another certificate of need approval.

The order issued today is a proposed order. Any affected party who takes exception to the proposed order may request DHS to hold an informal hearing. If no request for a hearing is received by May 30, 2006, the proposed order will automatically become final. For further information about this project, please contact Jana Fussell, certificate of need coordinator, at (971) 673-1108.

Under state certificate of need law, Samaritan Health Services was required to seek state approval of this project because it involves the relocation of existing nursing facility beds. The purpose of the law is to see that health services are adequately distributed in the state without unnecessary duplication of services or excessive cost to patients.
