DHS seeks emergency services award nominees
The Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking nominations for its annual recognition of excellence in the field of emergency medical services.
Now in their 14th year, the awards recognize exceptional performance by members of the community and those who work in and around emergency medical systems.
"This is an opportunity to honor exceptional acts, performance and leadership that contribute to Oregon's EMS system," said Jeanne Arana, DHS emergency medical services director. "We welcome nominations from the community, EMS providers, supervisors and managers."
The awards will be conferred at the annual Oregon EMS conference banquet in Portland on September 22.
There are 18 awards in three categories: professional achievement, incident-based events and miscellaneous awards. A complete list of categories, eligibility and judging criteria is in the EMS Award Manual, available on the DHS Emergency Medical Services Web site or from Catherine Schmitz at (971) 673-0532.
Nominations must be for performance or events that occurred between June 1, 2005, and May 31, 2006, and are due to DHS by June 30. Electronic or paper submissions must include a synopsis of the event, supporting documentation such as photos, newspaper clippings and letters of reference. They should be sent to: EMS & Trauma Systems, Attn: Awards Program, 800 N.E. Oregon St., Suite 640, Portland, OR 97232, or via email to email@example.com or fax to (971) 673-0555.
Winners will be chosen based on set criteria by a workgroup consisting of members from the Oregon EMS conference planning committee, EMS Educators Consortium, Oregon Volunteer Firefighters Association, Oregon Fire Medical Administrators Association and the Oregon Ambulance Association.
