DHS calls for Mental Health Awards for Excellence nominations
Sept. 13 is the deadline for Oregonians to nominate individuals and organizations for the 2006 Mental Health Awards for Excellence sponsored by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
Awards, which will be made in both individual and organization categories, will be presented during an Oct. 4 awards ceremony in the Oregon State Capitol in Salem as part of Oct. 1-7 Mental Illness Awareness Week.
"This has been a year of perhaps unprecedented attention to mental health in Oregon as policy makers and the public seek to identify the best means to strengthen the State Hospital and community mental health system," said Bob Nikkel, DHS mental health and addiction services administrator. "These awards honor people and organizations working tirelessly and often without recognition as well as those who are in the headlines."
Nikkel said consumers, family members, advocates, providers, mental health professionals, and public and private-sector employees are among those who could be nominated. Last year, 13 awards were presented.
