Media advisory: Seven Oregonians win Everyday Hero Awards

(Note to editors: This advisory is for media scheduling purposes. A news release will be issued next week. More details available on request )

Seven Oregonians and one financial institution will be honored this month for their efforts to protect Oregon's seniors from elder financial abuse and neglect. The individuals are from Portland, Boring, Hillsboro (2), Beaverton, Canby and Grants Pass. The financial institution is in Medford.

They will be honored at an awards ceremony at noon, October 18, 2006, at the Wittenberg Inn, 5188 Wittenberg Lane, N., in Keizer. The keynote speaker will be Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers.

The Governor's Commission on Senior Services created the "Everyday Heroes" campaign in an effort to raise awareness of elder abuse, increase reporting, reduce tolerance of elder abuse and find ways of connecting individuals and families with community resources.
