Governor's Council seeks nominations for 2006 awards
Nov. 3 is the deadline for Oregonians to submit nominations for five awards that will be presented in mid-December by the Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs.
The awards will recognize individuals, businesses, agencies or organizations for outstanding contributions in promoting substance-abuse prevention, treatment and recovery. Nomination details (PDF) can be found on the Oregon Department of Human Services Web site.
Council Chair Ann Uhler of Tigard says nominations should be detailed, specific, and convey both the consistency and longevity of the nominee's contribution.
The five awards:
Thomas R. Dargan Award of Excellence to an individual, either youth or adult, who has consistently demonstrated an outstanding commitment to prevention, treatment and recovery.
Outstanding Youth Achievement Award to an individual younger than 21 for significant contributions to prevention, treatment or recovery.
Clark Campbell Outstanding Media Award to a media individual, organization or business that has consistently supported substance-abuse issues or services.
Outstanding Community Achievement Award to a community coalition or an affiliated individual for making a significant impact on the local community.
Outstanding Innovations in Government Achievement Award to a county, state or tribal individual, team or agency that has substantially changed or improved government practice in alcohol and drug abuse programming.
Nominations may be submitted to the Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs, in care of Dee Humphreys, Addictions and Mental Health Division, 500 Summer St., N.E., Y-17B, Salem OR 97301-1118.
Awards will be presented Dec. 19 at Oregon State Capitol in Salem.
