Public meetings on Kaiser Foundation's proposal to construct Hillsboro hospital

What: Two public meetings regarding Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Inc. application for a certificate of need to construct a 138-bed general hospital in Hillsboro.

When: Dec. 7 from noon to 3 p.m.; and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Where: Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 E. Main St., Hillsboro.

Meeting details: Testimony will be limited to the proposal under review. Any person may speak at the public meeting. Any person who speaks may be questioned by the presiding officer or other Public Health Division staff.

Background: The Oregon Department of Human Services Public Health Division began review of Kaiser Foundation's certificate of need application on Oct. 27. A proposed decision will be issued no later than Jan. 25, 2007. The public meeting is part of the decision process.

State law charges DHS officials with reviewing proposals for new hospitals and nursing facilities to ensure health-care consumers don't pay for facilities not justified by community needs.
