Oregon resident named president of national foster care manager association
A veteran state manager has been elected president of the National Association of State Foster Care Managers.
State Foster Care Manager Kevin George of Portland will serve a two-year term. He has been with the Oregon Department of Human Services for 16 years.
Association members are convened annually by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Children's Bureau to address current issues facing state foster care programs.
"As the needs of children in foster care change, our practice and approach have to change, too," said George. "The association gives us a forum to pool our expertise and share information about issues that affect the safety, permanency and well-being of children and their families in out-of-home care."
A total of 16,027 children were served in the state foster care system in 2005; nationally, almost 800,000 children experienced foster care.
