2007-2008 AmeriCorps applications due July 16




Oregon organizations wishing to host an AmeriCorps member to do risk prevention and education work beginning this fall have until July 16 to submit applications to the Oregon Department of Human Services, which administers the federal funds.


AmeriCorps HOPE will place up to 20 full-time AmeriCorps members with host sites throughout Oregon for a term of service beginning in September 2007 and ending in August 2008. Eligible host sites include:

  • High schools, middle schools, education service districts, school districts and parochial schools;
  • Health care and service provider agencies;
  • Community-based organizations, non-profits and faith-based organizations;
  • Local government agencies; and
  • Organizations involved with teen pregnancy prevention.

AmeriCorps members, who are 18 and older, are not employees. They are direct community service providers, serving for a specific term within an AmeriCorps program. Full-time members receive federal stipends, education awards, health insurance, child care supplements if eligible, and student loan forbearance on qualified student loans.


AmeriCorps HOPE focuses on prevention education, risk reduction, healthy sexuality and relationships, positive youth development, increasing life skills, mentoring, support and service coordination for people affected by domestic violence or abuse, and developing local volunteer efforts. Development of personal, professional and leadership skills for members who serve is part of the program.
