Oaks Park event celebrates hundreds of foster children and their families

WHO: Invitation-only event1 for Foster children and their foster families from Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Polk and Columbia counties
WHAT: 14th Annual Afternoon at Oaks Amusement Park
WHEN: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29
WHERE: Oaks Amusement Park, 1 S.E. Spokane St., Portland
DETAILS: For the 14th year, hundreds of children in state foster care will have the run of Oaks Amusement Park for one afternoon. The annual event brings together about 1,800 people, including 50 volunteers from the Oregon Department of Human Services. The free event includes unlimited access to rides, musical entertainment by Tom Farley, a picnic and a commemorative T-shirt from John Tejada & BC Graphics.
Approximately 7,700 children are in state foster care. Last year family foster care served a total of 13,213 children. There are 5,309 foster homes in Oregon.
The event is sponsored by the Oaks Park Association, East Portland Rotary Club, DHS and an anonymous trust.
