Abstract:

This dataset contains case counts of asthma (ICD9-CM 493.0-493.9) and myocardial infarction (ICD9-CM 410) inpatient hospitalizations among Oregon residents for the years 2000-2006. These data are stratified by year and month of admission, county of residence, age group, and gender.

Purpose:

To provide data for the National Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Network consistent with the guidance for creating asthma and myocardial infarction inpatient hospitalization Nationally Consistent Data and Measures (NCDMs).

Supplemental_Information:

Data has been de-identified to protect patient confidentiality. Dataset contains 65,010 total observations. Asthma and myocardial infarction hospitalizations are selected based on primary discharge diagnosis coding.

The Oregon Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program obtains calendar year inpatient hospitalization data annually. These data are accessed by the Oregon EPHT Program through an agreement between the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems (OAHHS). Further information on OAHHS is located at <http://www.oahhs.org>.

Basic data verification procedures are completed by OAHHS on a regular basis. At this time ODPE does not have unique patient identifiers in the hospital inpatient dataset.
