Oregon Department of Corrections staff honored during National Correctional Employees Week

More than 100 staff members, contractors, volunteers and citizen supporters of the Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) were honored for their outstanding work on behalf of the department last week. Many of those recognized across the state, were presented an award during National Correctional Employees Week, May 1 through 7.

"The people who work for, and volunteer with, DOC make this organization great," said DOC Director Max Williams. "Their efforts ensure that our prisons are safe, clean and well-operated facilities; they work in a sometimes hostile environment to make sure Oregon residents can make their homes and lives in a sense of personal security."

Most importantly, according to Williams, DOC staff members continue to strive for positive organizational change, and to improve Oregon offenders' ability to successfully reenter society once they leave the prison system, in spite of the difficult economic times the department has faced during the last several years.
