Oregon State Penitentiary Moves to Modified Lockdown

The Oregon State Penitentiary will be on a modified lockdown on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, following an incident on April 24, 2011, when Oregon State Penitentiary staff responded to a multiple inmate fight in the institution's recreation building and yard.  Staff fired one warning shot and administered chemical spray to control the situation.  Approximately 81 inmates involved in the incident were segregated from general population.

The institution will slowly begin to return to normal operations on Tuesday. As previously planned, there will be no visiting on April 26, due to inmate weddings taking place.  Inmates have the opportunity to get married twice a year - once in April and once in October.  All other activities involving outside guests are cancelled for Tuesday.

The incident remains under investigation.
