An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) inmate who was mistakenly released Monday from a Multnomah County jail is in custody.
Inmate Stephen Jamaal Reed surrendered to a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office warrant strike team at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday in northeast Portland. Reed was transported and lodged at the Multnomah County detention center and is awaiting transport back to DOC custody.
Reed was accidentally released from a Multnomah County jail on Monday, July 23, after appearing in court for pending charges of possession of cocaine. An anonymous caller informed DOC officials early Wednesday morning that Reed had been released.
Reed entered DOC custody on May 2, 2012, on one count of delivering heroin out of Washington County. His earliest release date is June 22, 2013.
