|Programa Libertad y Recuperacion - Men
The Freedom & Recovery Program is a transitional program that provides culturally specific addictions treatment at the Oregon State Correctional Institute (OSCI) in Salem, Oregon. The program serves 24 Spanish-speaking men each year.
Started in 1997, this unique program is based on the Cultural Empowerment Model that bridges the complex issues facing the addicted Hispanic individual as they seek treatment and recovery. Some of the major strengths of this model lie in its design and facilitation by pro-social Hispanic role models as counselors and educators.
The program implements the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), research-based alcohol and drug assessment, treatment planning, relapse prevention and transition planning that create an environment of self-empowerment, humility, honesty and commitment necessary for inmates to fully implement a model of accountability and self change.
Each inmate spends three hours a day, five days a week, for an intensive six month period. in recovery, education and therapeutic groups.
