The New Directions Northwest is a residential treatment program located at the Powder River Correctional Facility (PRCF) , with a 178 bed capacity.
The program prioritizes criminally addicted men who have demonstrated the highest risk of re-offending. Clients are separated from the general prison population in a therapeutic community where they are expected to hold themselves and each other accountable for change. Treatment is designed to change clients’ thinking, beliefs, and behaviors through interventions that include skill development, role modeling, role play, and skill practice in non-therapeutic settings.
Families and significant others, community corrections officers, continuing care providers, self-help communities, faith-based communities, and other relevant social service providers are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the clients’ programming.
The program is a minimum six months long with inmates engaged in structured activities fourteen hours a day. Inmates who successfully complete qualify for a 90-day transitional leave in the clients’ home communities.
