SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT - DRCI
The Phoenix Program
corrections alcohol drug treatment

The Phoenix alcohol and drug treatment program at DRCI is provided by contractors from the Community Education Center.

Phoenix serves inmates who have histories of severe addiction and criminality and is designed to reduce recidivism by addressing each inmate’s substance abuse and criminal risk factors.  The program uses evidenced based cognitive behavioral curriculum in a therapeutic community environment.  This includes therapy groups, psycho-education groups, community based work, and transition re-entry groups, all designed to encourage positive decision making skills and solid recovery plans.

While participating in treatment, inmates work to develop the pro-social skills needed to successful transition back into the community.  Participants have structured 14 hour days that require treatment, physical work, exercise, and service to the therapeutic community.   The curriculum includes intensive addiction treatment, preparing for employment, developing good relationships and family skills, recognizing and changing criminal thinking errors, and stresses personal accountability.

The Phoenix staff works hard to encourage families, parole and probation officers, community partners, aftercare providers, the religious community, and other social service providers to take active roles in each inmates in-patient and continuing community based recovery.
