Land Board to consider Common School Fund distribution
Salem – The State Land Board will hold a special meeting via telephone conference on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. to consider a resolution regarding the 2013-15 Common School Fund distribution.
The 2013 Oregon Legislature passed House Bill 5008 which supports establishment of the Network for Quality Teaching and Learning within the Department of Education, funded with $12 million from the State School Fund. The funding is contingent upon State Land Board approval of an additional $12 million distribution to school districts in 2013-2015 from the Common School Fund.
Members of the public may listen to the meeting in the Land Board Room at the Department of State Lands, 775 Summer Street NE, Salem. Public testimony will not be taken during the meeting.
The State Land Board consists of Governor John Kitzhaber, Secretary of State Kate Brown and State Treasurer Ted Wheeler. The Department of State Lands administers diverse natural and fiscal resources. Many of the resources generate revenue for the Common School Fund, such as state-owned rangelands and timberlands, waterway leases, estates for which no will or heirs exist, and unclaimed property. Twice a year, the agency distributes fund investment earnings to support K-12 public schools. The agency also administers Oregon’s Removal-Fill Law, which requires people removing or filling certain amounts of material in waters of the state to obtain a permit.
