State Land Board Wetland Award
Level of recognition: Generally, there will be only one award presented each year. However, the selection committee may determine that more than one award would be appropriate. Likewise, the committee may determine that no award would be appropriate.
Types of Awards:
Wetland Mitigation (including compensatory mitigation, wetland banking and payment-in-lieu projects).
Wetland Restoration, Creation or Enhancement Projects (i.e., voluntary, non-regulatory projects for resource enhancement).
Eligibility: Permitted projects involving wetland areas.
Wetland Avoidance
Eligibility: Projects that may not require a removal-fill permit because wetland impacts were partially or fully avoided.
Qualifying Criteria:
Minimum to qualify
  • Project meets or exceeds all permit conditions; OR
  • No state permit is required; AND
  • The project is not subject to an unresolved enforcement action.
NOTE: Projects may be nominated within one year of completion of:
  • Construction of the project - for general authorizations or no state permit required; OR
  • Permit monitoring - for individual permits.
Selection Criteria
  • Improvements to wetland functions. Natural resources benefit and increased values to landowner, watershed, economy or community.
  • Innovative concepts/creative use of materials.
  • Community involvement/partnerships and stewardship in place - long-term commitment is evident.
  • Evidence that avoidance and/or minimization was part of the project design.
