Deborah’s responsibilities include providing visitor services at the South Slough Interpretive Center reception area; and, using these interactions to make visitors aware of volunteer opportunities available at the Reserve.  Deborah also schedules volunteer training, coordinates Reserve staff involvement with volunteers; and provides publicity for volunteer opportunities at the Reserve. Additionally, she acts as a liaison with the South Slough’s non-profit affiliate organization, the Friends of South Slough (FOSS), for volunteer related activities. Finally, Deborah maintains the organization and storage of records and recommends policies and rules governing the Reserve’s volunteer program.

Background and Experience
Deborah came to South Slough NERR with a professional customer service background in both the private and public sectors. Deborah has managed volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program in Jackson County where she recruited, trained and scheduled volunteer delivery drivers. Throughout her adult life, Deborah also has had positions in customer service and management for businesses in the private sector while attending college courses in the areas of human services and education. Deborah began her career at South Slough as a temporary Interpretive Aide which helped her to understand and recognize areas of volunteer need, as well as to gain a great respect and appreciation for the Reserve and the people who work and volunteer in such an extraordinary place.
