South Slough Reserve Welcomes Volunteers
The staff at the South Slough Reserve would like to invite you to participate in one or more of the many exciting opportunities here at the first site in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. Our calendar offers many interpretive programs for all ages. We have volunteer opportunities in the areas of education, stewardship, research, and monitoring. You can also support the Reserve and its programs by becoming a member of the Friends of South Slough (FOSS). Visit one of our booths at local festivals, shop in our FOSS Bookstore, view the work of local artists, take a hike on our trails, and much more!
Become a Volunteer
Join the dedicated group of people who share your interest in the community resource that is the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve.
The reserve is one of 28 national sites that protect estuaries through research, education, and stewardship.
Spanning 5,000 acres, South Slough Reserve includes upland forests, freshwater floodplains, and salt marshes. The reserve provides habitat for migrating and resident birds, nursery grounds for fish and shellfish, and recreational opportunities for people.

There are many ways you can become involved...
Learn about the wonders of an estuary and sharpen your interpretation skills as a Trail Guide. Welcome visitors and provide a meaningful experience for them by being a Visitor Services Assistant. Help get the word out about all our programs by becoming a Program Publicity Assistant. Develop materials and teach about estuaries as an Education Assistant. Help out behind the scenes with field work, cataloging artifacts, clerical tasks, website design, trail maintenance, landscaping and more!
