The Oregon Department of Energy is overseen by
director Michael Kaplan.
Michael joined ODOE in August 2013 and was appointed
director in November 2014. He leads a team of just under 100 employees who care
deeply about the future of Oregon and who are committed to delivering on behalf
of the Governor, the Legislature, and Oregonians in every corner of the state.
Prior to joining ODOE, Michael worked for two Oregon
governors – first as part of Governor Ted Kulongoski’s Economic Recovery
Executive Team, which was responsible for implementing and monitoring the
distribution of nearly $4 billion of Recovery Act funding, and later as
Governor John Kitzhaber’s Deputy Legislative Director. He also helped develop
and lead the implementation of Oregon’s Hardest Hit foreclosure prevention
program and served as a budget analyst for the Department of Administrative
Services. His professional experience includes positions at Portland State
University and the Port of Portland. Michael has a Bachelor of the Arts from
the University of Maryland.
