Solar InstallationCertain Residential Energy Tax Credit-qualifying solar energy devices require that an Oregon Department of Energy approved Tax Credit Technician (TCT) install the device.





Interested in becoming an ODOE-approved TCT for photovoltaics or solar thermal devices?
​Photovoltaics:
  1. Complete the TCT applica​tion. Be sure to include yo​ur technical certification, such as a Limited Renewable Energy Technician License or a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) EL Award. 
  2. Review the TCT Training Presentation.
  3. Contact us to request the Solar Program Quiz. The quiz is "open book," and must be returned within one day. Quizzes that are not returned within one day or that do not receive a passing score of at least 70 percent must wait 30 days before retaking the quiz.

Solar Thermal:
  1. Complete the TCT applica​tion. Be sure to include yo​ur technical certification, such as a Limited Renewable Energy Technician License , a North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) EL Award, or pass the Solar Thermal Exam (closed book). 
  2. Review the TCT Training Presentation.
  3. Contact us to request the Solar Program Quiz. The quiz is "open book," and must be returned within one day. Quizzes that are not returned within one day or that do not receive a passing score of at least 70 percent must wait 30 days before retaking the quiz.
  4. If you are interested in becoming certified through our closed book Solar Thermal Exam, please contact us.

​To maintain your status as an ODOE-approved technician, you must do the following every two years:
  1. Install/verify at least two systems.
  2. Take four hours of technical training (continuing education).
  3. Sign a new agreement with ODOE.
  4. Attend our annual conference call update.
