SEED Class 2 Buildings
In general, buildings smaller than 10,000 square feet are Class 2. Class 2 projects must also meet the 20% better than code requirement of SEED. The Class 2 SEED requirements are self-administered. The agency itself is responsible for making sure that all reasonable cost-effective energy conservation measures (ECMs) are incorporated into the building. The Department of Energy (Energy) may occasionally conduct site inspections to verify that ECMs have been installed.

1. Submit a Project Notification Form
Fill out the Project Notification Form, Class 2  and submit it to Energy. Early notification and involvement by Energy is essential is to ensure that energy efficiency is an integral part of the building design.

2. Incorporate Required ECMs into Building Design
Review the Class 2 ECM checklist available on Energy's Web site. All cost-effective ECMs must be incorporated into the building design.

If you need assistance or have questions regarding the Class 2 process, contact the Energy SEED staff.
3.  ECM Installation Form Submission
Within six months after project completion, submit the ECM Installation Form showing installed ECMs to the Department of Energy
