SALEM—The latest round of Oregon’s Business Energy Tax Credits (BETC) for smaller renewable energy projects closed Tuesday after only two business days. The Tier One Phase 2 round, for projects less than $500,000, opened Friday, Feb. 18.
The Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) received applications in excess of the $5 million in tax credits available and will no longer accept Tier One applications. Due to mandatory application processing timelines, ODOE is not creating a waitlist. Next week, ODOE will mail status updates to all Tier One Phase 2 applicants.
The next round of Tier One Phase 3 funding – another $5 million in tax credits – will be available on Monday, April 11. New application forms and instructions will be available on the ODOE website that day.
The 2010 Legislative Special Session put a $300 million cap on the amount of potential BETCs available for renewable energy projects. House Bill 3680 also created a tiered system of application review and spelled out evaluation criteria.

About the Department of Energy: The Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) provides tax credits, loans, technical assistance and energy information for homes, businesses, manufacturing, farms, ranches, schools and governments. For more information, visit ODOE’s website at www.oregon.gov/energy.
