SALEM — The Oregon Department of Energy will hold a public meeting to share information on the proposed Klamath Falls Bioenergy electric generating facility southwest of Klamath Falls. The meeting takes place from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27 at the Oregon Institute of Technology’s College Union building (3201 Campus Dr.).
The proposed facility would produce up to 42 megawatts of electrical power by burning biomass – or wood waste – to fire a steam turbine generator.
Klamath Falls Bioenergy LLC had its Application for Site Certificate deemed complete by ODOE on June 30. A public comment period opened on July 13 and closes on August 15.
Wednesday’s meeting provides an opportunity for ODOE and the applicant to explain the process of siting the facility, how the facility will be operated, and answer questions. While there will be no opportunity to provide oral testimony, interested parties may submit written testimony at the meeting.
Klamath Falls Bioenergy LLC’s application is available for viewing at the Klamath County Library (126 South 3rd St.) or on ODOE’s website at: www.oregon.gov/ENERGY/SITING/review.shtml#Klamath_Falls_Bioenergy
Following the end of the comment period, ODOE – which serves as staff to Oregon’s Energy Facility Siting Council – will prepare a Draft Proposed Order that contains recommended findings on the project’s compliance with EFSC’s siting standards. The Draft Proposed Order will also be made available for public review.
For those who cannot attend the July 27 meeting but would like to submit comments, they can be mailed to:
