Oregon Hanford Cleanup Board to meet on Oct. 27-28

SALEM—The Oregon Hanford Cleanup Board will meet on Oct. 27 and 28 in The Dalles at the Discovery Center Classroom located on 5000 Discovery Drive.
On Thursday the Board will meet with Scott Samuelson, U.S. Department of Energy-Office of River Protection (DOE-ORP), who will give an update on ORP activities.  Also on Thursday there will be a progress report on the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant and tank waste retrieval using a new retrieval system. On Friday the draft Hanford Public Involvement Plan will be one of the discussion topics, along with how Hanford has used $1.6 billion in federal stimulus funds.

The Oregon Hanford Cleanup Board provides policy advice to Oregon’s Governor and legislature on a wide range of issues regarding cleanup of the Hanford nuclear site in southeast Washington, just north of Oregon’s border. Part of the Board’s mission is to protect the Columbia River and Oregon from possible contamination.
The Board is composed of citizens, a representative of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, a representative of the Governor, state agency representatives and state legislators. ODOE’s Nuclear Safety Division serves as staff to the Board.
