SALEM — The Oregon Department of Energy will hold a public hearing Jan. 31 on the proposed Klamath Falls Bioenergy Facility southwest of Klamath Falls. The meeting takes place from 6-9 p.m. at the Oregon Institute of Technology’s College Union building (3201 Campus Dr.).
The proposed bioenergy facility would produce up to 42 megawatts of electrical power by burning biomass – or wood waste – to fire a steam turbine generator.
The purpose of the hearing is to receive comments – orally or in writing – on a Draft Proposed Order that was issued by ODOE on Jan. 9. The order contains recommended findings on the project’s compliance with Oregon’s Energy Facility Siting Council’s siting standards.
To view a copy of the Draft Proposed Order, please go to the ODOE website at: http://oregon.gov/ENERGY/SITING/review.shtml#Klamath_Falls_Bioenergy. Paper copies of the order are also available for inspection at the Klamath County Library (126 South 3rd St.) or at ODOE’s offices in Salem and Hermiston.
The comment period on the Draft Proposed Order closes at 5 p.m. on Feb. 10. For those who cannot attend the Jan. 31 meeting but would like to submit comments on the order, they can be e-mailed, mailed or faxed to:

To request an interpreter for the hearing impaired, or accommodations for persons with disabilities, please contact ODOE at least 72 hours before the meeting at 1-800-221-8035 or fax 503-373-7806. TTY users should call the Oregon Relay Service at 711.
