Unit 1 is a base-load power plant consisting of a combustion turbine generator, one heat recovery steam generator, and one steam turbine. Unit 1 began commercial operation in June 2007. Unit 2 is a non-base-load power plant consisting of 12 reciprocating internal combustion engines. Unit 2 began commercial operation in December 2014.
Operating. On November 22, 2019, the Council approved Request for Amendment 11 to the Port Westward Generating Project site certificate (RFA11), and authorized the Certificate Holder to construct and operate a 4 to 6 megawatt battery energy storage system within the existing facility site boundary.
