Governor Kate Brown

What would you do if you were Oregon's Governor for a day?

I meet often with students from across our state, and am always impressed with their passion for learning and desire to become leaders in their community.  I want our youth to know that the opportunities available to them here in Oregon are endless, and that with hard work and dedication, they can achieve anything they put their minds to.

That’s why we’re launching the “Governor for a Day” essay contest for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.  This contest will give our students exposure to the significance of public service, and the chance to dream big and let me know what they would do for our state as Oregon’s Governor.

Each middle school can nominate one student (in 6th, 7th or 8th grade) to enter the essay contest.  The nominated student should then submit their essay answering the question, “What would you do if you were Oregon’s Governor for a day?” The student I select from all statewide submissions will be sworn in as “Governor for a Day” and will spend a day with me, and other leaders across our state government, in Salem this February legislative session.
