Prioritizes education, jobs and innovation, and reducing the cost of government
(Salem, OR) — Kicking off the start of Oregon’s 77th Legislative Assembly this morning, Governor Kitzhaber delivered a State of the State address that praised lawmakers for their commitment to serve the state while challenging them to continue working together on difficult issues facing Oregonians.
“It will take all of us working together to reinvest in education, create jobs, and position Oregon to be more competitive in the global economy of the 21st century,” Governor Kitzhaber said. “Everyone in the state deserves their shot at that vision of Oregon we all share: a state with a commitment to equity and opportunity, with secure jobs with upward income mobility, and with safe, secure communities where people have a sense of common purpose and commitment to one another.”
Governor Kitzhaber delivered his address in the Oregon House of Representatives in front of representatives, senators, current and former statewide elected officials, representatives from federally recognized Native American nations, and justices from the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Court of Appeals, and Oregon Tax Court.
The Oregon Legislature will begin its regular session on February 4, 2013.
