(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber released the following statement regarding his attendance at President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“I'm honored to join First Lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union address. The President understands the value of partnering with states to drive innovation, and it's gratifying for our efforts here in Oregon to be recognized.
Across the country, communities are grappling with the same issues: rising health care costs, gaps in student readiness and building resilient economies that can rise to the challenges of the 21st century.
Working together with the Obama Administration, Oregon is scaling up innovative models that show how government can do more with less. These performance partnerships, which emphasize federal flexibility and local accountability, are key to achieving improved health care outcomes and efficiencies, creating better results for our students, and building the infrastructure we'll need to unleash the 21st century economy.
I am committed to working with the President to create jobs and grow the middle class.”
