Governor Kitzhaber appoints Heather L. Karabeika to the Clackamas County Circuit Court

​(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber today announced the appointment of Heather L. Karabeika to fill the vacancy on the Clackamas County Circuit Court created by the retirement of Judge Steven L. Maurer.
“Heather Karabeika has a reputation as a skilled, fair and reasonable lawyer,” said Governor Kitzhaber of the appointment. “She has already successfully demonstrated her ability to transition from an advocate to a neutral position as a municipal judge. She will be able to hit the ground running and continue her service to the people of Clackamas County as a judge on the Circuit Court.”
Ms. Karabeika graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Willamette University School of Law. Ms. Karabeika has extensive trial experience, serving  as both a deputy district attorney and indigent defense attorney in Clackamas County.  She also has experience in civil litigation and domestic relations. She was appointed by the City Council of West Linn to serve as the municipal court judge and was then elected by voters to fill the position in 2008 and 2010.
Ms. Karabeika is a member of the Clackamas County Bar Association and Oregon Women Lawyers, and she participates in local school activities such as the West Linn High School Mock Trial Program and Athey Creek Middle School Science Mock Trial Project.
