Governor Kitzhaber invokes Emergency Conflagration Act in response to Pacifica fire

Fire located near Williams in Josephine County threatens approximately 150 homes

(Salem, OR) — Governor John Kitzhaber invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act Friday evening in response to a fire near Williams in Josephine County.
In accordance with ORS 476.510-476.610, Governor Kitzhaber determined that a threat to life, safety, and property exists due to the fire and that the threat exceeds the fire-fighting capabilities of local fire-fighting personnel and equipment.

By invoking the Emergency Conflagration Act, the Governor ordered the Oregon State Police and the Oregon State Fire Marshal to mobilize fire resources statewide and coordinate with all appropriate Fire Defense Chiefs for the use of personnel and equipment to suppress and contain the fire.

“The fire near Williams continues to spread and threaten both life and property. I have directed all available state resources to help contain its growth,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “My priority is to ensure that this community has every resource necessary to fight this fire and protect the citizens of Josephine County.”

The fire has burned approximately 500 acres. This emergency is declared only for the Pacifica fire near Williams and was effective immediately.
