Governor Kitzhaber invokes emergency conflagration act in response to Rogue River drive fire

Blaze in Jackson County threatens 134 homes

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act at 8:02 p.m. this evening in response to the Rogue River Drive Fire, which threatens 134 homes between Eagle Point and Shady Cove in Jackson County.
The fire started Monday and is about 300 acres.
"This time of year, we know that small fires can become big fires in just moments. With more than 130 homes threatened, it is important that we act quickly to ensure appropriate resources are deployed to protect Oregonians," Governor Kitzhaber said. "Critical work is happening on the ground and in the air, where multiple agencies and firefighters from across the state are working together to ensure an efficient and coordinated response."

In accordance with ORS 476.510-476.610, Governor Kitzhaber determined that a threat to life, safety, and property exists due to the fire and that the threat exceeds the firefighting capabilities of local firefighting personnel and equipment.
The Governor's declaration authorizes the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal to mobilize structural firefighters and equipment to assist local resources battling the fire.
The emergency was declared for the Rogue River Drive Fire only and is effective immediately.
