Governor Kitzhaber appoints Jean Marie Martwick to the Columbia County Circuit Court

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber today announced the appointment of Jean Marie Martwick to fill the vacancy on the Columbia County Circuit Court created by the retirement of Judge Steven B. Reed.
“Jean Martwick is a hardworking attorney who brings significant trial experience and a level of sincerity that will make her a thoughtful and compassionate judge,” said Governor Kitzhaber. “Her deep experience and thorough understanding of the court system give her the tools to serve the people of Columbia County and the State of Oregon with distinction.”
A graduate of Portland Community College and Portland State University, Ms. Martwick worked her way through law school receiving her Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School Law. She began her legal career working for Metropolitan Public Defender Services, where she spent more than a decade handling felonies and misdemeanors in Multnomah and Washington counties. Later, Ms. Martwick moved into private practice and became a member of the Columbia County Consortium, where she has handled juvenile dependency and delinquency cases and been involved with Columbia County’s drug court. She has served as a small claims mediator, was a member of the board of directors for Animal Aid Inc., and volunteered with the Classroom Law Project.
