(Salem, OR) — Governor Kitzhaber announced today that he is accepting applications to fill the vacancy created by the death of Malheur County Justice of the Peace Terry Thompson. The Governor expressed his appreciation for the long service of Judge Thompson while offering condolences to his friends and family.
Governor Kitzhaber encourages applications from qualified individuals with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Additionally, ORS 51.240 provides that at the time of appointment, the candidate must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Oregon. ORS 51.240(2) further states that at the time of appointment, the candidate must “be a resident of or have a principle office in the justice of the peace district in which the justice court is located.” ORS 51.240(3) provides the required length of time for the residency requirements.
