Statement by Governor John Kitzhaber on U.S. EPA Biomass Permitting Deferral

(Salem) – Governor John Kitzhaber today offered the following statement in response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Biomass Permitting Deferral:

"I am pleased the Obama administration recognizes the value of biomass as a renewable energy source. This is good news for forest health on the eastside and the westside as well as rural economic development in Oregon. I will continue to work hard with Oregon's Congressional delegation for a permanent solution that gives communities, innovators and investors the certainty they need to help build a robust biomass industry in Oregon. I am confident EPA's review will demonstrate the carbon benefits of Oregon’s abundant biomass resources."
